The Kbkg wz. 60 (Karabinek-granatnik wz. 1960) is a Polish 7.62×39mm Kalashnikov-pattern assault rifle adapted to launch rifle grenades. It is best known for combining a standard AK-style rifle with a dedicated rifle-grenade launching system and gas shutoff.

HISTORY

The karabinek-granatnik wz. 1960 was developed in Poland in the late 1950s to increase infantry squad firepower by enabling the use of rifle grenades on a Kalashnikov-pattern carbine. The conversion included a gas regulator/cutoff (used when launching grenades), mounting provisions for a grenade-launching muzzle device, stock fittings for attaching a recoil pad, and a short 10-round magazine intended for grenade-launching cartridges (with an insert to prevent loading standard ball rounds). A dedicated propelling cartridge (UNM wz. 1943/60) was used for launching grenades, and a later updated version (wz. 1960/72) introduced a simplified sighting solution.

Beyond Polish service, the kbkg wz. 1960 has been documented in use by Vietcong forces, reflecting the wide variety of Warsaw Pact small arms that circulated internationally during the Cold War. In the Vietnam War context, it represents a less-common Kalashnikov variant compared to more widely encountered Soviet and Chinese AK-pattern rifles, but one that adds organic explosive capability through rifle grenades.
