The Fusil Robust is a line of side-by-side shotguns manufactured in France, known for their durability and reliability. These shotguns typically feature a boxlock mechanism, which is renowned for its simplicity and strength. Commonly used for hunting and sport shooting, the Fusil Robust shotguns often come with double triggers, allowing for quick follow-up shots, and are appreciated for their balanced handling and classic aesthetics. They have been produced in various models, each catering to different preferences in terms of barrel length, chokes, and stock designs.

HISTORY

Common and easy to use, the Robust rifle armed the FFI and FTP resistance fighters during the Second World War . It was also found in the hands of village self-defense groups and harkis but also in those of fighters of the National Liberation Army during the Algerian War .

The Robust SxS was manufactured by SCOPD Manufrance in St. Etienne, France. Its well made and employs a nickel chrome steel frame, a triple bolting system and swamped rib. They were available in 12 ga. and 16 ga. and enjoyed a strong following in France and other European countries. The base grade (221) was proofed at 900 bar/cm2 (13,053 psi) while higher grades were proofed at 1200 bar/cm2 (17, 404 psi). Most grades had a novel automatic sling that retracted into the buttstock. IIRC, models having a single digit were made prior to 1932. Over 800,000 of all grades were produced.

Between circa 1913 when production began and when Manufrance finally closed their doors in 1985, approximately 950,000 Robusts had been produced. Add in the Ideal production of roughly 80,000 that can be confirmed and Manufrance made more SxS than most well known American makers.
