Ammunition Box is a Gunner support equipment item that resupplies ammunition for teammates and yourself. The U.S. and VC versions use different box models, but both serve the same role.

In-Game Function

The Ammunition Box is available to the Gunner class. It has an ammo count of 1 / 3, a refresh time of 30 seconds, and gives all ammunition types listed by the equipment table.

Because it restores ammunition, the box is most useful when a squad is holding a position, supporting machine guns, or fighting long enough that players start running low on magazines, belts, grenades, or other carried ammunition.

HISTORY

Military ammunition boxes are used to store, protect, identify, and move ammunition. For small arms ammunition, U.S. Army manuals stressed the importance of keeping ammunition in its marked packing containers, preserving lot numbers and markings, and protecting containers from damage or moisture.

During the Vietnam War, ammunition supply was a major part of the wider logistics system. Ammunition moved through depots and supply points before reaching combat units, and U.S. Army histories describe ammunition support in Vietnam as a large, carefully managed effort involving storage, transportation, reporting, security, maintenance, and disposal.

At the unit level, an ammunition box represented the last visible piece of that supply chain: the container a soldier could actually carry, open, and draw from. Whether it held rifle ammunition, machine-gun belts, or other small arms ammunition, the box mattered because keeping weapons fed was as important as having the weapons themselves.
