Body Armor is protective equipment in Military Conflict: Vietnam. The U.S. variant is represented by the M69 Flak Vest, while the VC variant is listed in-game as ChiCom Body Armor. These items represent Vietnam War-era protective vests intended mainly to reduce injury from fragments rather than modern rifle-rated armor.

HISTORY

Fragmentation protective vests, commonly called flak vests, became more common among U.S. forces after the Korean War and continued to evolve during the Vietnam War. The U.S. Army used the M-1952 fragmentation protective vest, while the U.S. Marine Corps used the M-1955 armored vest; later in the Vietnam conflict, the Army added a protective collar to its vest design, producing the body armor commonly known as the M69.

The M69 was made from ballistic nylon layers sealed inside a waterproof casing and covered by an olive-drab outer shell. It was designed primarily to protect against shell, grenade, and explosive fragments. U.S. Army historical writing describes the M69 as fielded during the Vietnam War and notes that later Kevlar and ceramic-plate systems marked the shift away from flak jackets that offered only fragmentation protection toward armor intended to resist both fragments and small-arms threats.

The VC-side ChiCom Body Armor name is retained here as the game label. A specific standardized Vietnam-era Chinese or VC body armor model matching that exact name has not yet been identified from reliable public sources, so this page does not make real-world claims beyond the in-game equipment name.
