	~~DESCRIPTION GOES HERE~~		A sickle is a curved hand tool used for harvesting rice and cutting grasses, typically consisting of a short handle and a hooked steel blade. In rural Vietnam it was a common everyday implement, and in wartime it could also serve as an improvised close-quarters melee weapon due to its concealability and utility as a work tool. It is best known for its pulling cut, which is effective for vegetation and can be dangerous at arm’s length despite not being purpose-built as a weapon.

	~~TEXT GOES HERE~~		Sickles have been used for centuries across Asia as a practical harvesting tool, and in Vietnam they are closely associated with wet-rice agriculture. Traditional rice harvesting relied on hand tools, including sickles used to cut bundles of stalks during harvest, making them widespread in farming households and easy to obtain, replace, and maintain.

			During the Vietnam War, the [[Việt Cộng]] operated heavily in rural areas where ordinary farm tools were ubiquitous and could be carried without drawing the same attention as firearms. U.S. wartime records and collections document “rice knives” among items encountered in the field, reflecting how common these cutting tools were in the environment and in personal kits. In ''Military Conflict: Vietnam'' (MCV), the Sickle represents this kind of readily available agricultural blade being used as a melee weapon by Viet Cong forces.
